Using the default “Tightly Packed” option, the scheduling logic will attempt the use as few resources as possible by packing the ones that are used as densely as possible. This is best used in situations where one or more resources are scarce and you are trying to get as much done as possible with the limited resources. The “Fair Share” option attempts to use all resources as equally as possible. It is best used in situations where there are more resources than necessary and you want to use them all equally. For example, you want all staff persons to have about the same work load, or you want to distribute work across multiple machines in order to minimize maintenance requirements etc.
